Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 17 - Colonel Sergei Shumilin, deputy military attaché at the Russian Embassy in Cambodia, said that Russia and Ukraine will not be able to end the conflict peacefully if the West continues to supply weapons to Ukraine and Ukraine refuses negotiation.

Sergei Shumilin spoke in a press briefing on the foreign policy of the Russian Federation, held on Friday morning (Feb 17) at the Russian Embassy in Cambodia.

"Regarding the weapons assistance from the West, we fully understand that Western countries will not contribute to ending the conflict and finding a peaceful solution. In this regard, it seems like they are supporting this conflict," the deputy military attaché underscored.

"The conflict started because no country agreed to negotiate with Russia and no country wanted to sign a security agreement with Russia," he added.

Taking this occasion, he also repeated the speech of Russian president Vladimir Putin in November 2022, saying that "we need a new agreement, and according to this agreement, Ukraine will not become member of NATO because it could pose a threat to Russia's security".

He added, last year, the West did not want to hold peace talks and this year we still see that they continue to supply weapons to Ukraine.

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation on Ukraine after this country announced an intention to join NATO.
