Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 20 – Outgoing Indonesian ambassador to Cambodia Sudirman Haseng thanked Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen for naming two roads after the Indonesian leaders, speaking during a farewell call on premier Hun Sen on Friday morning (Jan 20) at the Peace Palace.

In the meeting, the ambassador congratulated Samdech and the people of Cambodia on the success of the ASEAN Summit and other relevant meetings. He said Cambodia’s success has encouraged Indonesia to continue its chairmanship of ASEAN this year. He also congratulated and wished Cambodia continued success in organizing the 2023 SEA Games.

During the meeting, the ambassador congratulated and thanked the Royal Government of Cambodia, especially premier Hun Sen, for naming two roads in Cambodia after the Indonesian leaders, including former president Sukarno and former foreign minister Ali Alatas.

These two roads reflect the cemented bonds of friendly relations between the two countries, the ambassador added.

“Both Indonesian leaders have good relations with the Cambodian people and government, contributing to the development of the bilateral relations. Naming the road will be the evidence of lasting relations for the future generations,” the ambassador underscored.

Samdech thanked the Indonesian ambassador for praising and bringing the Indonesian president's appreciation to Cambodia in hosting the ASEAN Summit and positively evaluating Cambodia's progress.

The premier stated that “the success of the ASEAN Summit in Cambodia was inseparable from the assistance of Indonesia and other ASEAN members.”

Regarding the naming of roads, Samdech mentioned the merits of Sukarno, who had nurtured good relation with Cambodian late king father that paved ways for Cambodia-Indonesia relations. Ali Alatas, on the other hand, has significantly contributed to bringing peace to Cambodia.

Cambodia and Indonesia established diplomatic relations in 1957. Indonesia has been a strong supporter of peace and stability in Cambodia.
