Kampong Cham (FN), Jan. 9 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen intended to make laws to determine single Cambodian citizenship for politicians, speaking at the groundbreaking for the reconstruction and upgrading of National Road No. 7, held on Monday morning (Jan 9) in Kampong Cham province.

The premier’s remarks came after some foreigners take the issue of citizenship to ask for Cambodian legal measures for prisoners with other nationalities.

Samdech said Cambodia will consider making laws to determine a single citizenship for civil servants, the armed forces and politicians.

The premier explained that the issue of dual citizenship is interfering in Cambodia's political affairs, especially in restricting legal actions against those who violate the laws in the kingdom.

In addition, Samdech asked how many countries in the ASEAN region allow dual citizenship to carry out political activities?

Cambodia has laws determining that the prime minister, the National Assembly president, Senate president, and the Constitutional Council president must hold a single Cambodian citizenship.
