Preah Sihanouk (FN), Dec. 10 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) has considered tourism as a priority sector and the "green gold", spoke at the opening ceremony of the 9th Sea Festival, the 3rd round under the theme "Bay of Peace, Bay of Hope", held on Saturday (Dec 10) in Preah Sihanouk Province.

“The RGC has considered tourism as a priority sector, and as the "Green Gold", contributing to the national socio-economic development through creating jobs, raising incomes of the people directly and indirectly, boosting on-site export, increasing national income, supporting economic growth, contributing to effective and responsible cultural preservation and protection of our environment and natural resources, and especially contributing to the development goals of becoming "an upper-middle income country by 2030" and "a high income country by 2050,” the premier underlined.

“Becoming a club member of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World since 2011 has truly marked a turning point for a better change of Cambodia's coastal areas in terms of socio- economic, tourism, urbanization and environmental aspects. This membership is the determining factor of the international recognition of Cambodia's bays, covering four provinces including Preah Sihanouk, Koh Kong, Kampot and Kep, under a common name of "Cambodia Bay", nicknamed "The Rising Star of The Southwest",” the premier added.

Samdech continued, “These beautiful bays complement thousands of temples, left by our ancestors, the former kings. In addition to these bays, many tourist sites, such as those in the northeast and in other areas, are beginning to emerge.”

“In this context, the RGC has set to celebrate the Sea Festival, contributing to not only the promotion of tourism potentials of coastal provinces, but also the support for government policy to focus on sustainable and responsible tourism development. In fact, the potential of natural resources of Cambodia's coastal areas, nicknamed "The Rising Star of the Southwest", is outstanding, rich, and favorable for the development of tourism in these areas. These progresses cannot be achieved without the security factor, clearly proving that Cambodia has enjoyed complete peace, political stability and security,” the premier added.
