Sihanoukville (FN), Dec. 10 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) has set to celebrate the Sea Festival, contributing to not only the promotion of tourism potentials of coastal provinces, but also the support for government policy to focus on sustainable and responsible tourism development.

The premier spoke at the opening ceremony of the 9th Sea Festival, the 3rd round under the theme "Bay of Peace, Bay of Hope", held on Saturday (Dec 10) in Preah Sihanouk Province.

"In fact, the potential of natural resources of Cambodia's coastal areas, nicknamed "The Rising Star of the Southwest", is outstanding, rich, and favorable for the development of tourism in these areas," the premier underscored.

"I would like to call on relevant ministries-institutions, authorities at all levels, armed forces of all types, all compatriots and the private sector to participate with a high sense of responsibility to make this year's Sea Festival a success, contributing more actively in the competition of "Clean City, Clean Resort, Good Service, Good Hospitality", and collaborating to maintain the beauty, hygiene and environment as indispensable factors in preserving beautiful coastal areas as heritance to the next generations for a long time to come," the premier added.

Samdech continued, No Peace, No Development; No Peace, No Respect for Human Rights and Democracy; and, without peace, there is nothing. Hence, I urge Cambodian citizens nationwide to unite to maintain peace which we have so hard fought for. We must not allow any country or group to destroy peace in this country, and we all must maintain the peace, at all costs, to ensure development.

Samdech urged relevant ministries-institutions must continue to give priority to developing coastal areas, building necessary infrastructure to support the tourism sector, and connecting one area to another by roadways, railways and airways and boosting production to supply to tourists, as an objective of "the on-site export".
