Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 6 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen urged citizens and institutions to start saving electricity.

The premier spoke in a meeting with Cambodian ASEAN Para Games athletes prior to their departure to Indonesia, held at the Peace Palace on Wednesday (Jul 6).

“I would like to urge our citizens and all public institutions to jointly save electricity as it is the first time in the history that Cambodia faced profit loss from electricity,” the premier underlined.

“Some countries have already increased the price, but not in Cambodia,” the premier added.

Samdech continued to call on public institutions to start saving electricity, adding that for this year, Cambodia is expected to lose more than USD 100 million in terms of revenue from electricity due to the Russia-Ukraine conflicts and sanctions.

War and sanctions bring about negative impacts to the world, the premier said.
