Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 6 – Hubert Haddad, advisor to president of Côte d'Ivoire, said that the 5th communal election was conducted in a clean climate and adhered to the democracy principle.

His statement was made at the press conference of the international observers on Monday (Jun 6) at Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh.

"During my three years of political life, in particular in democracy process, I have always fought against those who commit bad things. I was very pleased and honored to visit Cambodia in my capacity as the ICAPP representative. My team volunteered to observe in this election process without receiving money or allowance in return. However, we want to see the cleanliness of the democracy process in Cambodia, who used to be a war-torn country. We want to help Cambodia to step out from the past. We are here to see the [election] process with transparency and we do not see any argument between the voters. We note the smooth and transparent election process,” Hubert Haddad underlined.

Hubert Haddad added that in the election process of many countries and his country, he and his team often countered the fighting caused by the voters at the poll due to political affiliation.

"It was a surprise for me to be able to participate in the election process as I have seen the value of political stability and freedom and that Cambodia has been practicing them since the liberation from the Pol Pot regime in 1979,” Hubert Haddad added.

Hubert Haddad continued, “We can travel everywhere, especially during COVID19 as vaccination rate in the kingdom is higher among others in the world and that also contributed to the election process. For yesterday's election, in our view, this country [Cambodia] is doing perfectly and smoothly and the election is going well.”

On this occasion, Hubert Haddad and his team visited 22 polling stations. He believed the election process in Cambodia was conducted in the right path of Liberal Multi-party Democracy.
