Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 6 – The Centrist Asia Pacific Democrats International (CAPDI) confirmed that the 5th mandate communal election was conducted calmly and peacefully.

“At the invitation of the National Election Committee (NEC), CAPDI sent a delegation to observe the 5th communal election, which took place on 5 June 2022. The delegation arrived in Phnom Penh on 3-4 June 2022 and met with NEC as well as leaders from the registered political parties. In addition, NEC also explained in details about the transparent election process,” according to the statement seen by Fresh News on Monday (Jun 6).

"The election was calm, peaceful and non-violent. Additionally, the delegation did not notice any protests, which could affect the election process or the result,” the statement added.

On the election day, CAPDI delegation noted that the voter turnout was good and the NEC staff worked with integrity and honesty. The delegation conducted their observation at six polling stations in various areas in Phnom Penh and Kandal’s Muk Kampul district, the statement added.

CAPDI also congratulated Cambodian citizens for their active participation in the election and wished Cambodia a success in strengthening her democracy and development. The success of the election in 2022 is another important step in advancing the kingdom's ongoing reforms to achieve the people's aspirations for peace, democracy and development.

In this regard, the CAPDI delegation also urged the international community to cooperate constructively with the Cambodian citizens and with the elected Royal Government to ensure the sustainability of the rule of law, promoting good governance, economic promotion and social development for the citizens’ well-being.

It is worth noting that at least 7.1 million people came to vote among the 9.2 million registered voters, an equivalent to 77.9 per cent, according to the National Election Committee.
