Switzerland (FN), May 25 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen sought to promote Cambodian potential investments and opportunities to attract more investors from the European and other countries.

The premier spoke during “Cambodia Night” event, held in Davos, Switzerland on 24 May 2022, which was organized by WorldBrigde Group of tycoon Sear Rithy.

The premier briefed about the kingdom’s peace and political stability for the last two decades, which allowed the kingdom to achieve 7 per cent of annual economic growth. Cambodia’s effective control on COVID19 also allows the kingdom to become the first country to lift COVID19 preventive measures for international travelers in Southeast Asia.

Samdech continued, Cambodia is actively working to diversify and restore her economy from COVID19 crisis. He said that Cambodia gives the highest priorities to various key investment activities such as innovation or research and development for high-tech industries, supporting industries for agriculture and agro-industries, agro-processing and food-processing industries, and other industrial activities that produce, assemble or install automobile, electrical and electronic equipment, and heavy-duty manufacturing.

In addition, the RGC has also been proactively promoting a better business and investment climate by improving the quality, times and costs of logistics; increasing the efficiency of public services; providing skill development, and modernizing the social security system. In addition, Cambodia has also made great strides to open up its economy and engaged with new markets by finalizing and adopting Cambodia-China Free Trade Agreement, the Cambodia-Korea Free Trade Agreement, and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Agreement.

Furthermore, over the past two years, Cambodia has been heavily and actively investing in physical infrastructures at major economic poles such as the improvement of the infrastructure across Siem Reap and Sihanoukville provinces, the construction of new international airports in both Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, the construction of deep-sea container ports to eliminate water-depth barriers and provide direct access to Cambodia for large vessels from the United States and Europe, the construction expressways connecting Phnom Penh to deep-sea ports in Sihanoukville, and building of infrastructure connecting main economic poles of Cambodia and ASEAN; as well as investment in information and digital technology systems.

Cambodia gives the highest priority to the development of cultural tourism, which has not only contributed to economic growth, job creation and poverty reduction, but also contributed to the regional integration. Cambodia considers tourism as the Green Gold.

Cambodia is indeed an attractive cultural tourism destination within the region due to the marvels of Angkor Wat, of other thousand temples, of non-tangible heritages such as dance, opera, sculpture, bustling lifestyle, and delicious cuisine. These factors, together with the beauty of Cambodia's coast and green scenery, are fittingly why Cambodia is named the Kingdom of Wonders.

Despite the tourism sector being still in the recovery phase from the COVID-19 crisis, the RGC still considers this sector as a major growth driver and remains committed to provide necessary supports for this sector to grow back, even stronger, from the crisis, so that it can become an economic pillar for job and income creations to our people.

On that occasion, Samdech announced to welcome all investors to explore and seize investment opportunities in Cambodia.
