Phnom Penh (FN), May 17 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen questioned the United States whether the shoe-throwing incident in Washington is a form of violence or freedom of expression.

The premier spoke in a meeting with Samdech Techo Voluntary Youth Doctor Association (TYDA) on Tuesday (17 May).

"This is not a small issue. Let the US think carefully whether this is a form of violence or a freedom of expression,” the premier said, adding that “if throwing shoes at someone is a freedom of expression, the world will be chaotic, including in the US and Cambodia.”

Cambodian premier advised Cambodian Foreign Ministry and the Cambodian Embassy in the US not to take any diplomatic actions yet. He called on his supporters, both inside and outside the country, to remain calm.

Premier Hun Sen also recalled the 2008 shoe-throwing incident against former US President George W. Bush by the Iraqi journalist. That person was sentenced to three years in prison.
