Phnom Penh (FN), May 7 – Cambodian delegate minister Kao Kim Hourn said that the US president Joe Biden should spend more time with ASEAN leaders during ASEAN-US Special Summit next week in Washington, DC if he truly commits to improve ASEAN-US relations.

The delegate minister told Fresh News on Saturday (May 7).

According to delegate minister, all ASEAN leaders should receive equal respect and opportunity to spend valuable time with Biden. As a large country and the host of US-ASEAN Special Summit, the US should be open mined for ASEAN leaders who are preparing to travel to Washington.

Kao Kim Hourn believed that it would be normal for the ASEAN chair to meet with the leader of the host country, whether it will be a formal or informal meeting. However, US ambassador to Cambodia Patrick Murphy told him that there was no specific information for any bilateral meeting due to president Biden’s tight scheduled.

In addition, the White House did not respond to Kao Kim Hourn's remarks. The White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said that Joe Biden will hold a Banquet with ASEAN leaders at the White House.
