Phnom Penh (FN), May 5 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen encouraged the US-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC) to continue their investments and explore other potential opportunities in Cambodia.

His remarks were made during a courtesy call by US-ABC delegation on Thursday (5 May) at the Peace Palace, Phnom Penh.

According to the premier’s personal assistant Eang Sophalleth, premier Hun Sen also welcomed the installation of automotive assembly plant in Pursat province.

In the meeting, US-ABC senior vice president and regional managing director Michael W. Michalak thanked the premier for supporting the US-ABC and expressed his support for Cambodia’s chairmanship of ASEAN 2022.

Michael added that premier Hun Sen’s leadership has played a vital role for the region, especially for Myanmar. He praised the kingdom’s effective COVID19 control, which leads to the full reopening of the Cambodian economy and makes today’s physical meeting possible.

Michael said that today, he led delegation from 13 companies to discuss energy issues, the installation of automotive assembly plants in Pursat, the promotion of the digital economy and the health sector.

In response, Samdech thanked the United States for providing Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer vaccines to Cambodia, and briefed the delegation about the Cambodia's energy situation.

Cambodia's electricity is dominated by 61 percent of hydropower, 4.1 percent of solar power and 0.28 percent from biogas.
