Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 30 – Ambassador of the United States to Cambodia Patrick Murphy agreed that Cambodia has been one of the fastest growing economies in the last decade, which has brought more American companies to the kingdom.

The ambassador spoke in the inauguration of the 50th Caltex Gas Station in Cambodia on 26 April 2022.

The US ambassador believed that it is a fantastic sign between Cambodia-US relations. Chevron has been in the kingdom for 25 years and now opening the 50th representing high standard and high quality.

The ambassador was very proud of Chevron and the Caltex brand in Cambodia.

Fresh News asked ambassador about the factors that bring the American investment in Cambodia.

"Well, this is an expanding market that it has been one of the fastest growing economies in the world for the last decade. It is a youthful population and there is a big appetite for what American brands offer, quality service, guarantees, and innovation. As we could see today with the very first public gas station offering electric vehicle charging," the ambassador responded.

"Talking about the investment climate, do you think Cambodia is a good country to invest?", Fresh News asked.

Patrick replied, “Well, it is improving. You know that we have a business advisory that points out some of the challenges here. American companies need to be eyes wide open, but we can see expansion.”

The ambassador continued, “Ford Company is going to open a vehicle assembly plant in Pursat very soon. We have very large employers here, including Coca Cola, American Hardwood Flooring, Crown Bottling Company and others. This is expanding and we have talked with the senior minister and others about how to improve the investment climate to make it more attractive.”

It is worth noting that in 2021, Cambodia-US bilateral trade volume amounted to USD 9 billion, an increase of 32.61% compared to 2020.
