Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 13 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen and Vietnamese prime minister Pham Minh Chinh agreed to further strengthen political trust, increase cooperation to fight against COVID19l, promote socio-economic recovery, continue to work together to build a peaceful and friendly border between the two countries, according to Cambodian Foreign Ministry’s press release seen by Fresh News on Wednesday.

Premier Pham Minh Chinh extended New Year wishes to premier Hun Sen through a telephone conversation on 12 April 2022.

In the phone call, both expressed their pleasure on the positive progress in the cooperation between Cambodia and Vietnam in the past, especially the trade volume.

Despite COVID19, the two countries' trade volume in 2021 reached USD 9 billion, up about 80 per cent compared to 2020 and has maintained a positive growth momentum in the first quarter of 2022. The Socialist Republic of Vietnam continues to rank first among ASEAN countries in terms of direct investment in Cambodia.

The two leaders emphasized the strategic importance of maintaining and constantly strengthening good-neighborly relations in the tradition of Cambodia-Vietnam comprehensive cooperation for the security and development of each country in the current situation, especially on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Vietnam, as well as the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the United Front for National Salvation of Cambodia.

On that occasion, prime minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam fully supports Cambodia’s chairmanship of ASEAN Summit 2022.
