Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 20 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen and Japanese prime minister Kishida Fumio urged the Myanmar's Nay Pyi Taw authorities to swiftly implement the Five-Point Consensus (5PCs) in order to facilitate humanitarian relief to the people of Myanmar.

"We [Cambodia-Japan] consented to urge Nay Pyi Taw authorities to swiftly implement the “Five-Point Consensus" in order to facilitate humanitarian relief to the people of Myanmar," said premier Hun Sen in a joint press conference.

"The two leaders expressed concerns about the situation in Myanmar and called for the immediate cessation of violence, a stop to the flow of weapon, all parties to exercise utmost restraint and commencement of a process of dialogue for peaceful solution, and the release of political detainees, as well as return to normalcy and the democratic political system," according to a joint statement seen by Fresh News on Sunday.

The two leaders shared the importance of actively carrying out the delivery of humanitarian assistance, in coordination with ASEAN Coordinating Center for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Center) and international organizations, to the people of Myanmar who are most in need based on humanitarian principles, the statement added.

Japanese prime minister Kishida Fumio welcomed Cambodia’s active engagement as ASEAN Chair to break the deadlock, and expressed hope for fruitful outcomes of the first visit to Myanmar of ASEAN's chair special envoy Prak Sokhonn in the third week of March 2022.

“In relation to this, the two prime ministers reconfirmed the importance of making efforts to solve the problems through communication with all parties concerned. Premier Hun Sen expressed his appreciation to Japan for its active role to break the deadlock through working in close coordination with Cambodia, respecting the unity and centrality of ASEAN and supporting its efforts.”
