Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 3 – The lawyers representing the Royal Government of Cambodia issued a public statement to clarify the misleading allegations formed by the lawyers representing former president of the court-dissolved opposition party Kem Sokha.

Kem Sokha has been accused of conspiring with foreigners to topple the legitimate Royal Government of Cambodia. If found guilty, Sokha faces up to 30 years imprisonment.

After the recent hearings held on 23 February and 2 March 2022, the lawyers for Kem Sokha have tried to distort the fact that the court did not have enough evidences to accuse or charge Kem Sokha in accordance with Article 443 of the Cambodian Criminal Code, “Conspiracy with Foreign Power”.

The government lawyers would like to clarify as follows:

"According to Cambodian criminal code procedure, all parties concerned have the rights to freely submit any evidences to the court to review. In fact, over the past three weeks, court is reviewing all the evidences submitted."

"Kem Sokha’s lawyers’ ill intentions were made to mislead the public."

The government’s lawyers added, "the most important piece of evidence was a video clip in which Kem Sokha announced his plans to overthrow the legitimate government to his supporters and activists in Melbourne and was publicly released on 23 August 2015 by Cambodian Broadcasting Network (CBN)."

"Kem Sokha also admitted his guilt. Therefore, there are sufficient evidences to charge and accuse Kem Sokha of conspiring with foreigners to topple the legitimate Royal Government of Cambodia."
