Seoul (FN), Feb. 11 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen requested the president of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in to expedite the ratification of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Cambodia and the Republic of Korea.

The premier’s request was made during a working meeting with president Moon Jae-in in Seoul, South Korea on Friday.

In this regard, Samdech emphasized that Cambodia has now completed the internal procedures related to the agreement, according to delegate minister Kao Kim Hourn.

The premier highlighted Cambodia's new investment law, which actively encourages foreign investment. Samdech also asked Korea to provide support and cooperation, especially in the fields of agro-industry and processing of products for export to the Republic of Korea and third countries.

In response, president Moon Jae-in said the Korean side has completed the procedure and is sending the CKFTA to the Korean National Assembly for ratification, which is expected to complete in the near future.

During the meeting, president Moon Jae-in also congratulated Cambodia’s chairmanship of ASEAN Summit 2022.

With regard to the kingdom’s new investment law, the South Korean president said approximately 300 Korean companies are currently operating in Cambodia.

Cambodia and the Republic of Korea officially signed the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) via video conference on 26 October 2021, presided over by Cambodian commerce minister Pan Sorasak and his South Korean counterpart Yeo Han-koo.
