Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 1 – Cambodian delegate minister Kao Kim Hourn said Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen's official visit to Myanmar on 7-8 January aimed to bring peace and reconciliation.

The delegate minister spoke in the interview with CNN hosted by John Vause on Tuesday.

“Premier Hun Sen's visit to Myanmar aimed to reach goals set by ASEAN in 2021. The main goal is to end violence on the ground, to have ceasefire, and to initiate constructive dialogues with all the parties concerned,” Kao Kim Hourn said.

“There are some positive outcomes of premier Hun Sen’s visit to Myanmar. First, the Myanmar military regime has agreed to extend the ceasefire until the end of 2022. Second, the junta leader has also agreed to welcome the special envoy of ASEAN chair, which was part of the five-point consensus. The visit also paves way for the deliveries of humanitarian assistances to people in Myanmar [without discrimination]," Kim Hourn said.

“Cambodia wants to host AMM Retreat on 16-17 February for the organisation of a multi-stakeholders consultative meeting on humanitarian assistances. This is why we are pushing very hard to constructively engage with Myanmar,” Kao Kim Hourn underlined.

He continued, “prime minister Hun Sen has brought peace, stability, and development to Cambodia, paving way for a multi-party liberal democracy. The way the kingdom assists Myanmar does not have national benefits, but it is the responsibility of Cambodia as the chair of ASEAN 2022. Myanmar is our ASEAN family member. We must assist her to end violence, uphold ceasefire, and get the special envoy to meet the concerned party, engage in constructive dialogues, and ensure that Myanmar is not isolated from ASEAN.”
