Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 30 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that vaccination against COVID19 is a key to control the spread of the disease; to end the crisis; and to reopen the socio-economic activities in a safe and a new normal way.

The premier spoke at the handover ceremony of Poland-aided 300,000 AstraZeneca vaccines to Cambodia on Sunday at the Peace Palace.

“As of 20 January 2022, Cambodia has so far vaccinated 90% of her total 16 million population. Cambodia can effectively control the spread of the disease, reduce hospitalization and mortality rates to a minimum, and maintain the kingdom’s socio-economic activities,” the premier underlined.

Samdech continued, despite the February 20 community event, Cambodia's economy growth exceeded the expectation, driven by the success of the national vaccination campaign.

The kingdom’s economy is projected to grow by 3% in 2021 and by over 5% in 2022 through full reopening in all sectors.
