Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 25 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen and Malaysian prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob met via videoconference on Tuesday to discuss the Myanmar crisis.

According to delegate minister Kao Kim Hourn, the premier’s official visit to Myanmar was to learn the actual situation and find out the root to the crisis in order to effectively implement the ASEAN five-point consensus.

“Premier Hun Sen told the Malaysian counterpart that the main solution to the Myanmar crisis is to stop the violence. Samdech is also working with the Myanmar’s military regime to ensure that they adhere to ceasefire,” he added.

Kao Kim Hourn quoted the premier as saying that, “Myanmar crisis is complicated, which cannot be resolved in a few days. It takes times. He reiterated that the ceasefire, the cessation of violence and the humanitarian assistance are important things to be addressed, especially providing humanitarian relief to Myanmar without discrimination.”

Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the premier’s recent visit to Myanmar is vital for ASEAN and the international community.

Ismail Sabri Yaakob stressed that the Myanmar crisis requires immediate joint actions. He also urged to release all political prisoners in Myanmar, such as Aung San Suu Kyi.

On the occasion, the Malaysian premier also supported the ASEAN chair’s special envoy Prak Sokhonn to meet with all concerned parties in Myanmar.
