Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 18 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that ASEAN 2022 agenda has many other issues to be addressed besides the Myanmar crisis.

The premier spoke at the opening of the 40th ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF 2022) in Sihanoukville on Tuesday.

"ASEAN’s scope of works in 2022 are not just about Myanmar crisis as many political observers have discussed over the last three weeks,” said the premier, adding that "ASEAN has many other concerned issues and that ASEAN is not the hostage of the Myanmar's crisis.”

“The are many issues for ASEAN to address, including ASEAN tourism recovery in the context of COVID19,” he underlined.

Samdech said his statement today is a compass for political observers of the ASEAN region.

Recently, Samdech also highlighted his initiatives to provide assistances and humanitarian aids to Myanmar based on the "Troika" mechanism. In this sense, the past, current, and future ASEAN chair plus the ASEAN secretary general, will work together to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire in Myanmar.

Myanmar crisis will not be solved under Cambodia’s ASEAN chairmanship alone; it will last until the next ASEAN chairs, according to premier Hun Sen.
