Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 18 – The Republic of the Union of Myanmar congratulated and praised Cambodia for the successful reopening of the kingdom’s tourism.

Myanmar hotels and tourism minister Htay Aung spokein a bilateral meeting with Cambodian tourism minister Thong Khon on Tuesday at the sidelines of the 40th ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF 2022) held in a coastal Sihanoukville province.

Cambodian tourism minister highlighted that Cambodia so far received nearly 2,000 international tourists per day after Cambodia fully reopened her tourism sector on 15 November 2021.

Thong Khon also briefed Cambodia's successful vaccination campaign to restore the socio-economic activities. In this regard, Htay Aung said he will take Cambodia’s reopening experience as an example for Myanmar’s tourism sector.

The bilateral meeting also discussed tourism cooperation between the two countries as follows:

1. Promote joint marketing research and promotion.

2. Push to launch direct flights between the two countries.

3. Support each other on human resource development and professional capacity building.

4. Exchange visits for the public, private and media.

5. Strengthen cooperation in sub-regional frameworks such as Greater Mekong Subregion Cooperation, Mekong-Lancang Cooperation, ACMECS Cooperation and CLMV Cooperation.
