Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 5 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen requested the Organizing Committee for the 32nd SEA Games to include North Korea's International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) along with South Korea's World Taekwondo (WTF) in the 2023 SEA Games for Korean peninsula reunification purpose.

The premier spoke on Wednesday during the reward ceremony to Cambodian athlete, held at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh.

“If South Korea’s taekwondo is included, then the North Korea’s one should be included too. I would like to propose to include the North Korea’s taekwondo in the games if we want to reunite the two Koreas,” the premier underlined.

On that occasion, Samdech added that regarding politics, president of South Korea is trying to reunite the two Koreas. Therefore, those countries who want to see a peaceful reunification of the Korean peninsula should support the North Korean sports to be included in the International Olympic Committee.

The premier continued that, North Korea’s ITF under the leadership of chairman of Cambodia Taekwondo ITF Federation (CTIF) Keo Remy has won many gold medals so far.

Education minister Hang Chuon Naron confirmed that four countries have supported to include North Korean taekwondo for the SEA Games.

Cambodia will host the 32nd SEA Games in May 2023 regardless of any circumstances, premier Hun Sen announced.
