Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 5 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen issued an order not to allow any patients tested positive for Omicron COVID19 variant to be treated at home regardless of their wealth and age.

The premier spoke during a rewarding ceremony for athlete Ouk Srey Mom who wins gold medal in Petanque world championship from Spain, held on Wednesday at the Peace Palace, Phnom Penh.

"Even if I return from Myanmar and test positive for Omicron, I will also be treated at the hospital. Regardless of your wealth and age, you must be treated in a hospital, otherwise it will lead to community transmission and lockdown,” the premier underlined.

Samdech added that Omicron patients are now being treated at the National Center for Tuberculosis and Leprosy and Loung Mae Hospital.

As of 5 January 2022, Cambodia has detected 94 new cases of Omicron variant, some of which have been cured.
