Phnom Penh (FN), Jan 4 – The prosecution of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court (PPMC) and the authorities showed evidences that the illegal protests in front of NagaWorld were funded by foreign and local NGOs, speaking in a press conference on Tuesday.

According to Phnom Penh deputy police commissioner major general Bun Sosikha, the evidences were found in the detainee’s mobile phones and computers.

“The authorities found several bank transactions made to the bank accounts of protest leader Chhim Sithar and entourages,” Sosikha underlined.

Deputy prosecutor of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court Seng Hieng confirmed that the funds were transferred three times with the amount of USD 5,000 each time. Authorities believed that there are further fund transactions to be discovered.

On 31 December 2021, nine illegal protesters in front of NagaWorld were arrested for allegedly violating security, public order and social security. Among those, six were sent to court and are currently in pre-trial detentions. The other three were educated and released.
