Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 3 – The prosecution of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court (PPMC) decided to allegedly charge nine illegal protesters in front of Naga World for inciting riots to cause serious social unrest, a violation of article 494 and 495 of the penal code, according to the press release seen by Fresh News on Monday.

The nine people include Chhim Sithor, Ry Sovandy, Son Sreypech, Hay Sopheap, Khlaing Soben, Touch Serey Meas, Chhim Sokhon, Sok Narith and Sok Kongkea. Of the nine, six were arrested and sent to court, while three escaped.

The nine illegal protesters were arrested on 31 December 2021 for allegedly violating security, public order and social security.

Prior to the arrest, the Phnom Penh City Hall has repeatedly urged the protesters to stop the illegal protest in order to maintain security, public order and social security. The arrest of the nine protesters were done in accordance to article 194 and 195 of the penal code of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
