Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 29 – Cambodian former leader of the court-dissolved opposition party Sam Rainsy has still not responded to the wager made by Cambodian lieutenant general Hun Manet over allegation that Manet owned a fake degree from West Point Military Academy.

"Such actions showed that Rainsy is an old, coward and irresponsible politician," Manet wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.

Manet urged Sam Rainsy to provide evidences and wager with him over the false allegation.

"In order to protect my honor and dignity, as well as that of the many Cambodian cadets who are studying and graduating from West Point and other US academies in other countries around the world, I demanded that Sam Rainsy present evidences to defend his defamatory statements through wagering," Manet wrote.

In October 2019, the spokesperson of the US Embassy Phnom Penh Emily V. Zeeberg wrote in an email response to Fresh News’ question following Rainsy’s allegation over Hun Manet's fake degree issued by West Point US Military Academy.

“Graduates of US colleges, universities, or institutes of higher learning receive degrees or certifications if they meet the requirements of that institution. A student’s country of origin is not a factor,” Emily stated in email.

Manet is currently a deputy commander-in-chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, army commander and chairman of the Central Youth Committee of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP). He received a bachelor's degree from West Point in 1999. He also received a Master of Arts in Economics from New York University in 2002, and a doctorate from the University of Bristol in 2008.
