Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 9 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that the current international airports can not effectively support the rapid growth and development of Cambodia’s aviation sector.

The premier spoke at the construction inspection of the new Phnom Penh International Airport in Kandal province on Thursday.

“Both Phnom Penh and Siem Reap International Airports can not respond to the rapid growth and development of Cambodia’s aviation. After our investment, our country can welcome all sizes of aircrafts to land in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville,” the premier said.

Announced officially in 2018, the USD 1.5 billion 4F-class New Phnom Penh International Airport is constructed across more than 2,600 hectares of land in Kandal Stung district and Sa’ang district in Kandal province.

Currently, two other airports are under construction, including Siem Reap International Airport and Dara Sakor International Airport.
