Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 9 – The Central Committee of the Cambodian People's Party will hold a meeting on 24 December 2021 to prepare the next generation cabinet.

Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen spoke at the construction inspection of the new Phnom Penh International Airport in Kandal province on Thursday.

“All the next generation cabinet members are under 60 years old. Nearly 50 percent of them holds PhD degrees and the rest masters’ degrees,” the premier said, adding that “the top leaders of CPP already agreed that those aged over 60 would step down when the next generation assume office.”

"I, Sar Kheng, Say Chhum, Tea Banh and Men Sam An, met yesterday to discuss the list of the next generation cabinet, but not for 2023 election. I will still be a candidate for the 2023 elections,” the premier said.

Prime minister Hun Sen reassured investors that peace in Cambodia is sustainable due to peaceful and stable political transition.

“After the father, the son will succeed,” the premier underlined.

Premier Hun Sen recently announced to fully support Hun Manet to be the next generation Cambodian prime minister through elections. Following this announcement, the central committee of CPP, representatives of ministries, institutions, units, high-ranking government officials, as well as the working group of the CPP, associations and the private sector submit petitions to support the premier’s announcement.
