Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 1 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen met with Japanese prime minister Fumio Kishida on Wednesday via videoconference to discuss the importance of Cambodia-Japan bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues.

Delegate minister Sri Thamrong told Fresh News on Wednesday.

Premier Hun Sen thanked the Government and People of Japan for their continuous support on Cambodia's development, especially their assistances in the fight against COVID19 through providing vaccines, ambulances and other medical equipment.

“Japan medical assistances are crucial to Cambodia to overcome the COVID19 pandemic. Cambodia is a loyal friend of Japan,” Thamrong quoted the premier as saying.

Thamrong added that during the meeting, the two leaders also recalled their historic cooperation, including the deployment of Japanese peacekeepers to Cambodia in 1992. In this regard, both countries plans to hold a ceremony to commemorate this historic event in 2022, marking the 30th anniversary of the deployment.

Cambodia requested Japan to continue promoting cooperation between the Japanese and Cambodian peacekeepers. In particular, provide training for Cambodian peacekeepers as well as provide training and scholarship to Cambodian students and encourage more Japanese investors to invest in the kingdom.

Samdech Hun Sen also requested Japan to resume ANA flight after the COVID19 pandemic eases.

Prime minister Hun Sen hopes Japanese prime minister will attend the ASEAN Summit in 2022 in Phnom Penh and pay an official visit to Cambodia.
