Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 18 – Cambodian foreign minister Prak Sokhonn and newly appointed Japanese foreign minister Hayashi Yoshimasa discussed at length on the situation in Myanmar and shared the view that ASEAN has an important role to assist Myanmar in finding peaceful approach to the resolve the crisis, held on Thursday via telephone conversation.

"The Five-point Consensus agreed at the ASEAN Leaders’ Meeting on 24 April 2021 should be fully implemented without further delay," according to the press release seen by Fresh News on Thursday.

The Five-point Consensus includes:

1. Immediate cessation of violence in Myanmar and all parties to exercise utmost restraint.

2. Constructive dialogue among all parties concerned shall commence to seek a peaceful solution in the interests of the people.

3. The special envoy of ASEAN chair to facilitate mediation of the dialogue process, with the assistance of the ASEAN Secretary-General.

4. ASEAN to provide humanitarian assistance through the AHA centre,

5. Special envoy and delegation to visit Myanmar to meet all parties concerned.

"In closing the conversation, minister Hayashi Yoshimasa wished a great success to Cambodia in hosting the 13th ASEM Summit on 25-26 November 2021 and in steering ASEAN process in 2022."
