Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 17 - The Chinese government pledges to provide more vaccine aids to Cambodia and said she is delighted to be a supplier of COVID19 vaccine to the Royal Government of Cambodia despite vaccine shortages.

Chinese ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wentian spoke at the handover ceremony of China-aided 2 million doses of Sinovac vaccine at the Phnom Penh International Airport.


“China never fails to deliver the promise,” the ambassador underlined.

On top of vaccine aids, the Chinese side also provided medical equipment to Cambodia to fight against COVID19, including traditional Chinese medicine.

China has contributed COVID19 vaccines to developing countries more than any other country in the world. So far, China has provided more than 1.7 billion doses to more than 110 countries and international organizations. China’s vaccine donation aims to reach 2 billion doses by the end of 2021.

Cambodia has received more than 36 million doses of COVID19 vaccines from relevant partners to inoculate her people, of which China is the main supplier through donations and commercial procurement.

On behalf of the Chinese government, the ambassador was pleased to see that Cambodia’s vaccination rates was ranked one of the highest in the world and that the infection rate has significantly dropped.

Ambassador Wang Wentian commended Cambodia’s effective control of COVID19 under the wise leadership of premier Hun Sen, especially the decision to consider China as a strategic supplier of vaccine, and the iron-clad friendship between the two countries as well as helping hand in difficult time.
