Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 10 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen announced Friday at the cabinet meeting that Cambodia has produced over 700 kilograms of gold.

Following 14 years of feasibility study, Cambodia approved a gold mine and refinery factory in Mondulkiri's O'Khvau area, owned by Renaissance Minerals (Cambodia) Limited.

O'Khvau Gold Project officially started on 21 June 2021. It is estimated to produce approximately three tons of pure gold per year in the first eight years.

The gold mining will provide an average gross income of about USD 185 million per year and that USD 40 million will go into national budget, which will be allocated for economic and social development, the premier wrote in a letter addressed to compatriots in late June 2021.

The premier underlined that Okvau Gold Project will serve as a model for other mining businesses based on sustainability principles.

"Our efforts in mining sectors allow us to extract underground resources to serve the socio-economic development of our nation with high responsibility to protect environment," the premier wrote.
