Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 22 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen announced the resuming of meetings and inauguration ceremonies, as well as the reopening of the economy.

The premier spoke at the plenary session of the Council of Ministers held Friday at the Peace Palace.

The premier added that meeting in person is recommended if possible, while meeting via Zoom is alternative. He also proposed to resume the preparation for the inauguration of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, set for November 8.

“If students are allowed to go to school, workers should go to work normally too. Next, we should restart other programs that we have canceled, such as the inauguration of the Cambodia-China Friendship Bridge, the Stung Trang-Krouch Chhmar, and other achievements in Sihanoukville which we have allocated a huge budget,” the premier added.

"If we do not reopen, dealing with economic collapse is tougher than dealing with COVID19 death,” the premier said.

Samdech also underlined that resuming activities nationwide is possible due to Cambodia’s successful vaccination and herd immunity. As of 21 October, Cambodia has so far vaccinated over 85 percent of the total population. More than 1.5 million people have received third dose or booster shot.
