Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 15 – Spokesperson of Cambodian Human Rights Committee Chin Malin said that some pro-foreign groups continue to take the Paris Peace Accord, an agreement aimed at ending war and restoring peace in Cambodia, to serve the political agenda by allowing foreigners to interfere in Cambodia’s internal affairs.

His statement came after a handful of pro-foreign politicians and human rights activists continued to criticize the law enforcement against few individuals who committed crimes.

"It is now the season for pro-foreign groups, who always want foreigners to interfere the Kingdom’s internal affairs, to continue to use the Paris Peace Agreement as a ground for criticizing and humiliating the government, which have always been a part of their political habits,” the spokesperson told Fresh News earlier today.

Malin underlined that based on the principles of national laws and international laws, it is not right to mention Paris Peace Accord today.

"So what should be discussed now is whether the government has adhered to the 1993 Constitution, not the spirit of the Paris Peace Agreement."

Malin added that the government adheres to the 1993 Constitution. The 1993 Constitution includes a constitutional monarchy in which the King reigns, but does not govern; the principles of a liberal multi-party democracy; rule of law; and the rights and freedoms.

"For law enforcement, such as the dissolution of some political parties and activists that have violated the law is in accordance with the legal system in a democratic society,” he added.

Meanwhile, Malin emphasized that freedom is highly promoted and protected, but some opposition groups have taken the opportunity to use the excuse of exercising their rights to commit crimes to cause social unrest in order to fulfill their political ambitions, but these ill-intended individuals are subject to the strictest legal measures by the government to maintain peace, stability and public order.
