Kampong Thom (FN), Sep. 6 – Dr. Li Ailan, WHO representative to Cambodia, said that the current COVID19 situation in Cambodia has improved and therefore the reopening of schools is a right decision.

Her statement was made on Monday during the handing over of donations from Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen to the grandparents who volunteered to vaccinate, held in Kampong Thom province.

She supported the decision to reopen the schools as the students or schools are not the main driving force behind the COVID19 community transmission;

"Long-term school closures seriously affect children's physical development, both mentally and intellectually," she said.

Li Ailan also stressed the effectiveness of the “3 Dos and 3 Don’ts” health measures set by the Royal Government of Cambodia.

"The COVID19 vaccination campaign is going well and the management of COVID19 has also improved," she added.

On 31 August 2021, the premier spoke in his voice message advising the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports to work with provincial authorities to review the reopening of schools in villages and communes, which have a low risk of COVID19 infection.
