Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 30 — The first shipment of 500,000 doses of the US-aided Johnson & Johnson vaccine arrived Cambodia on Friday.

Cambodian health minister Mam Bunheng presided over the handover ceremony of the vaccines at Phnom Penh International Airport. The event was also attended by Ben Wohlauer, WHO and UNICEF representative.

Through COVAX Facility, the US announced to donate 1 million doses of vaccine to Cambodia.

The second shipment expects to arrive on 2 August 2021.

These vaccines are part of the ongoing support of the US for the people of Cambodia and the region as they recover from this devastating pandemic, US Embassy in Phnom Penh wrote on Friday.

Cambodian government commits 20 million doses of COVID19 vaccines to vaccinate 10 million Cambodian people for free of charge.

As of 30 July, the Kingdom has vaccinated over 7.1 million people, an equivalent to 71% completion of vaccination program.
