Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 29 – Cambodia is among the first countries to receive 415,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from the United Kingdom in a bilateral agreement this week, according to UK government’s press release seen by Fresh News on Thursday.

British foreign secretary Dominic Raab announced on 28 July 2021 that the UK will begin to deliver 9 million COVID19 vaccines around the world, including to Cambodia, to help tackle the pandemic.

“The UK is sending 415,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Cambodia as part of the first batch of the 100 million doses we’ve pledged, to get the poorest parts of the world vaccinated as a matter of urgency. We’re doing this to help the most vulnerable, but also because we know we won’t be safe until everyone is safe,” said Dominic Raab.

British Ambassador to Cambodia Tina Redshaw said: “These 415,000 AstraZeneca vaccines will support local communities in Cambodia to restart businesses, protect health services and restore livelihoods. I’m delighted the UK is fulfilling its commitment to donate vaccines across the world both bilaterally, as in this case, and through COVAX including here in Cambodia”

The UK has pledged to donate 100 million vaccines overseas by June 2022, 80 million of which will go to COVAX.
