Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 4 – According to media report, at the recent Cambodia Telecommunication Industry Policy Online summit, Telecommunication Regulator of Cambodia (TRC) and China Telecommunication Technology Laboratory (CTTL) had a session to communicate on telecom equipment type approval testing. It seems that Cambodian authority is trying to learn from other country’s practice of building telecom equipment market access standard.

With global trend of digitalization, the formation of appropriate standard and cybersecurity assurance capabilities has become the concern for many countries. The Cambodian government is also making efforts to regulate the telecom market by strengthening type approval of importing models and assigning teams to all cities to measure telecom services everywhere in Cambodia. The Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) estimates that the total number of IoT connections worldwide will reach 24.6 billion by 2025. The Internet access of a large number of devices will need secured and standard mechanism.

Reporter interviewed some people from Huawei Cambodia to find their comments, which is the largest telecom equipment provider both globally and locally. Liu Pan, Chief Security Officer of Huawei Cambodia, said that: Huawei provides services to more than 3 billion people in more than 170 countries and maintains a good quality and security record. All these are based on Huawei’s practical good performance and deep trust from operators. Trust is based on facts, which must be verifiable, and verification must be based on common standards. The telecommunication industry needs efficient, unified, and open and evolving evaluation standards. For example, in the cybersecurity field, in March 2020, Huawei's 5G RAN was the first to pass the GSMA NESAS audit. In May 2020, Huawei's 5GC was the first to pass the GSMA NESAS audit. Huawei also actively participates type approval certification in Cambodia and provides standardized products to Cambodian society.
