Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 25 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said on Wednesday that Cambodian economy growth will recover in 2021.

He said although the economy is affected by COVID19 crisis, the volume of the Kingdom's exports increased by 18 percent, speaking in a meeting with the government lawyers at the Peace Palace.

In the first eight months of 2020, Cambodia's exports reached USD11.7 billion, an increase of 18 percent, according to the report of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

“So far, our total revenue reaches USD 4.5 billion, of which USD 2.5 billion comes from tax revenue and USD 2.1 billion comes from customs revenue. Therefore, it has reached to nearly USD 5 billion this year,” said the premier.

Prime Minister Hun Sen asked for understanding from civil servants and armed forces for suspending their salary increases in 2021 due to the uncertain economy amidst COVID19 crisis.

It is worth noting that the Royal Government of Cambodia has forecasted that the Cambodian economy will shrink to -1.9 percent, while the World Bank forecasted -2 percent and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) forecasted -4 percent.
