Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 7 – The Ministry of Interior issued a statement on Monday, calling on relevant authorities to take legal actions against Khmer Thavrak and Mother Nature NGOs, whose activities are causing social unrest.

“Khmer Thavrak Youth Group and Mother Nature Movement are conducting activities under clear organisational structures, yet there two NGOs do not register at the Ministry of Interior in accordance to Law on Associations and Non-Governmental Organisations,” according to the ministry’s statement.

“The two NGOs have been carrying out acts of incitement to undermine stability, security, public order and social unrest through the use of social medias and lead demonstrations without any permission,” the statement added.

The Ministry of Interior also appealed to the public not to participate in the illegal activities of these groups. At the same time, the ministry requested relevant authorities to ensure public order and national security, especially during Pchum Ben festival.
