Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 30 – The Embassy of Malaysia in Phnom Penh organised a "Merdeka Ride" - a joint bicycle-motorcycle ride around select locations in the city of Phnom Penh on Sunday, 30 August 2020.

An entourage of 43 cyclists and 20 heavyweight motorcycle riders, comprising embassy officials, staff and their family members, as well as Malaysians living in Cambodia gathered for a Merdeka Ride convoy to usher in the nation's 63 years of independence.

The convoy is led by Malaysian Ambassador to Cambodia Eldeen Husaini Mohd Hashim, Ambassador of Malaysia.

The group sang Malaysia’s national anthem and the Jalur Gemilang song before setting off from the Embassy and beginning the convoy’s journey.

The convoy’s route included Takhmau town, before heading for the finish line back at the Embassy. The total ride distance is about 22 kilometres.

“Merdeka Ride has injected the sense of unity, pride, spirit of patriotism and love for Malaysia, whilst encouraging all Malaysians to lead a healthy lifestyle,” the ambassador stated.

Ambassador extended his profound appreciation to Malaysians in Cambodia, as well as all other parties who have been extremely supportive in making such momentous event a resounding success.
