Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 16 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said that Cambodia has requested the Secretary-General of the United Nations to temporarily postpone the transfer of Cambodian peacekeepers, speaking Sunday at the inauguration of the Garden City Water Park owned by tycoon Ly Yong Phat.

The decision was made after Cambodian peacekeepers returning from UN Mission in Mali have tested positive of Covid-19.

According to Kosal Malinda, spokeswoman for the National Centre for Peacekeeping Forces, today, the Kingdom has 678 peacekeepers carrying out humanitarian missions in four countries, including Mali, South Sudan, Central African Republic and Lebanon.

Prime Minister Hun Sen stated that Cambodia does not ask to keep the peacekeepers there permanently, just postpone the transfer.

The Premier asked for the understanding from the Cambodian peacekeepers abroad and their families regarding the postponement. He also asked for the understanding from the Cambodian people and students who are stuck in Malaysia.
