Phnom Penh, Jul 23 – Malaysian Ambassador to Cambodia Eldeen Husaini Mohd Hashim, accompanied by the Malaysian defence attaché and embassy officials, visited the base of Cambodian Special Forces 911 Airborne in Phnom Penh on Thursday.

The Embassy delegation met with key personnel of the Cambodian elite forces and were given a comprehensive tour and briefing on the history of the 911 Special Forces.

Ambassador Eldeen also had a productive meeting with the Commander of the 911 Special Forces, Lieutenant General Chap Pheakdey who is also the Deputy Commander of the Cambodian Army, during which the Malaysian Ambassador extended an offer for the 911 Special Forces members to undertake courses under the Malaysian Defence Cooperation Programme (MDCP) specific to the area of commando training and anti-terrorism. He also invited them to undertake technical training in other relevant areas under Malaysia’s Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP).

The insightful visit and meeting between Ambassador Eldeen and Lieutenant General Chap Pheakdy highlighted both countries’ mutual desire to strengthen defence collaboration, which was recently forced to take a backseat due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

This visit is part of the Embassy’s continuous efforts to establish broader and deeper linkages between Malaysia and the Kingdom of Cambodia in all possible areas.

Ambassador Eldeen expressed his profound appreciation to Lieutenant General Chap Pheakdey and to the experienced members of this elite Cambodian defence force for accommodating a timely and fruitful visit and exchange session.

The Embassy of Malaysia hopes this is the start of stronger and more meaningful cooperation between the armed forces of Malaysia and the Kingdom of Cambodia in years to come.
