Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 29 – Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia Prak Sokhonn expressed his hope that the new Timorese Ambassador to Cambodia Ermenegildo Kupa Lopes will enhance bilateral relations between the two countries.

The statement was made Wednesday in a welcoming call from the new ambassador held at the ministry.

"Minister Prak Sokhonn expressed his hope that the new ambassador will further improve the relations between the two countries during his mission to Cambodia. The two nations already built good relations as witnessed through the frequent exchanges of senior leaders' visits,” Koy Kuong, the ministry’s spokesperson, quoted Minister Prak Sokhonn as saying.

Ambassador of Timor-Leste thanked Prak Sokhonn for his warm welcome and best wishes.

The ambassador commended Cambodian government’s efforts in combatting Covid-19; and expressed his gratitudes towards the Royal Government of Cambodia for supporting Timor Leste to be the eleventh member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), according to Koy Kuong.

It is worth noting that Cambodia and Timor Leste established diplomatic ties on 29 July 2002 and since then, the two countries have been steadily strengthening bilateral ties from year to year.
