Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 28 – Chinese State Counsellor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi thanked Cambodia for opposing politicisation and fallacy game of COVID-19, while all countries should come together to face common threats against humanity.

Wang Yi’s statement was made on 27 April 2020 through a telephone conversation with Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn had a on fighting against COVID-19.

According to the ministry’s press release dated Tuesday, Minister Prak Sokhonn praised China’s success in preventing COVID-19 through the great self-sacrifice and holistic efforts of the Chinese government and people to prevent the spread of the disease, and treat the patients.

He also commended and thanked China for helping many countries in the world by sending doctors, medical equipment, medicines, and sharing experience on treatment, which signify true international solidarity and responsibility.

Prak Sokhonn also thanked China for sending doctors and medical equipment, both civilian and military; supplying raw materials to ensure Cambodian factories continue to operate; taking care of Cambodian citizens and students; and sharing experience to Cambodian Blue Berets in Lebanon and Mali.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi recalled China's efforts to overcome the crisis through strict measures and stressed the need to remain vigilant.

Wang Yi reiterated the spirit of mutual assistance between China and Cambodia, highlighting the support of His Majesty the King and Her Majesty Queen Mother, as well as the full support of Prime Minister Hun Sen through a working visit to Beijing during the most difficult time.

Regarding bilateral relations, Wang Yi said that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Cambodia, and the two countries will continue to implement agreements to promote bilateral relations to a higher level. He reiterated that China will continue to support Cambodia to further its development.

In response. Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn voiced his support for China's initiative “COVID-19: A Call for Unity”, claiming that now is the time for us to unite, not a time to break up.
