Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 19 – Cambodian Minister of Interior Sar Kheng issued a letter on Thursday ordering Cambodian governors at the provinces bordering Vietnam, and the National Police’s General Department of Immigration to temporarily suspend crossing borders with Vietnam, according to a letter dated 19 March 2020.

The Ministry of Interior recommends as follows:

1. Entry by Vietnamese nationals into Cambodia and Cambodian nationals into Vietnam by land, water way and air must be temporarily suspended, effective from 23h59 of 20 March 2020. This measure is primarily aims to fight the spread of Covid-19.

2. The above measure does not apply to Vietnamese and Cambodian holders of diplomatic and official passports.

3. Governors of provinces bordering Vietnam shall facilitate the repatriation to Cambodia of all Cambodian nationals, if any, currently placed under quarantine in Vietnam.

4. Governors of provinces bordering Vietnam and authorities at all levels at the borders must work together with Vietnam to facilitate and ensure that the transport of goods across the common border can be carried out without disruption.

Cambodia took actions based on the spirit of friendship and mutual understanding with regard to the prevention of the spread of Covid-19.
