Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 27 – Cambodia’s Joint Border Committee (JBC) issued a statement on Friday to denounce fake 78th border marker created on Google Map and shared on Facebook by Account Sila Chey.

To avoid confusion, the JBC has informed the public follows:

Official border post 78 is a type of twin border marker including pole 78 (1) located on the west of the Cham River in the territory of Cambodia, in Chorm Krovean commune, Memot District, Tbong Khmum province and pole 78 (2) are located on the east of the Cham River on the Vietnamese territory Loc Ninh district of Binh Phuoc province.

The fake border marker was 5km different from the official marker, which was mutually agreed by Cambodia and Vietnam.

JBC called on compatriots, both domestic and foreign, not to believe the distorted information created by ill-intended groups to attack the government.

To date, Cambodia and Vietnam have achieved 84 percent of border demarcation and work to accomplish 100 percent in order to ensure the territorial integrity and sovereignty.
