Siem Reap (FN), Sept. 17 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen stated that the aging population in Japan has pushed her to welcome migrant workers from young-labour countries, speaking at the opening ceremony of the Third Ministerial Conference on Labour Cooperation in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam (CLMTV).

Held Tuesday in Siem Reap, Cambodia, the meeting convened under the theme “Toward the Protection of Migrant Workers in CLMTV Countries: Cooperation in Social Securities”.

“Japan has provided conveniences for migrant workers due to aging population; South Korea also accepts many workers,” the premier stated.

As of August 2019, Cambodia has sent about 60,000 workers to South Korea, according to the statistics of the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training.

The report added that Cambodia has sent 8,000 workers to Japan by July 2019.

According to Prime Minister, three countries in ASEAN, including Brunei, Singapore, and Malaysia lack labour forces.
