Phnom Penh (FN), Sept. 2 – Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad advised Cambodian youth that dieting is the key to longevity, speaking Monday at the dialogue on “Balancing Relations with the Superpowers in the Context of ASEAN”, held at the Royal University of Phnom Penh, attended by diplomats, government officials, and approximately 700 university students.

Answering the moderator’s question on how Dr. Mahathir Mohamad stays energetic at the age of 94, Dr. Mahathir Mohamad stated that: “the secret to good health is to avoid eating too much.”

He explained that “when we eat too much, our stomach grows bigger and thus demands more food. As we fulfil our big stomach with more food, our internal organs need to work hard twice to digest food. Due to overwork, our organs will be tired and our health deteriorates accordingly.”

“Do not get fat,” he concluded, as the audience burst into laughs and gave him big applause.

Ty Sopanharoath, 19, told Fresh News that he enjoyed and learn many things from the open dialogue, particularly glad to have the opportunity to interact in person with the premier of Malaysia.

A law junior at the American University of Phnom Penh and of international studies at RUPP said, “it is important to participate and hear about Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad’s perspective on many critical topics, such as key to good health, impacts of Belt and Road Initiative towards Malaysia, Cambodia, and ASEAN, and Cambodia-Malaysia bilateral relations.”

Answering Sopanharoath’s question on “What does Cambodia expect to gain from the official visit of Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, the Malaysian premier pledged to bring in more Malaysian investment and tourists to Cambodia, as well as further strengthen the bilateral relations of the two countries.

It is worth noting that Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and spouse landed Cambodia on Tuesday 9:40 a.m for an official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia from 2-4 September 2019, at the invitation of Prime Minister Hun Sen of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The official visit of Dr. Mahathir Mohamad to Cambodia will significantly contribute to further strengthening and deepening the excellent bonds of friendship and close cooperation between Cambodia and Malaysia in bilateral, regional and international frameworks.
